Wood Kitchen Table - Keep it Glowing with Ease

Do you have a nice wood kitchen table? If you're nodding your head yes, are you sure? When was the last time you really saw your table? If your home is like many others, the kitchen table tends to be the place where things pile up. It's all stuff someone plans to get to later, but never does.

These things get to the wood kitchen table with the best of intentions. One family member was in the kitchen, someone else came in to talk to them and put some things down on the table that they were going to deal with. The conversation lingered on and eventually that second person left, leaving their clutter behind. Once this happens enough times, you have a mess on your hands.

It's time to deal with it. Pull out the trash can, slide it right up to the kitchen table and start sorting. You may be surprised at how many of those things really need to be in the trash and were piling up on the table instead.

Now it's time to reclaim your table. First give it a good wipe down. Use a sponge or cloth with warm soapy water to clean off any dust, dirt and other debris that has been stacking up on the surface.

Once the easy to clean off things are gone, it's time to take a closer look at the table. Get down where are grooves, gaps or seams in the table are located. What do you see? Is there more build up of dirt and grime in those spaces? Probably. You need to get them out. Some people use a toothpick to get the larger pieces out, but that won't scrub out the rest of the space. The best thing to use is an old toothbrush. Depending on the grooves and details in your table, this could take some time. Be patient and realize that the reason it's taking so long is because you have neglected the table for so long in the first place.

After all the dirt is gone you need to wipe the table down again, to make sure it has been all cleaned away. Now it's time to make that wood shine. You need a furniture polish and a rag. Take your time rubbing the oil into the wood until it all shines like it did when you first bought it.
Isn't it nice to see it looking that young again? Not to mention that by putting this polish on, and keeping up the polish regimen regularly, you will be able to more easily clean the table in the future.

Just like all the other things you do around the house, you should really add that wood kitchen table into the list of 'to-do' items. By giving it a little extra attention, as you are cleaning the other portions of your house, you will be able to prevent the harder and more time consuming cleanings that have to happen if you let things get out of hand.
